Call for Fellowship Applications
Interested individuals should submit their packets by October 1st of each year to their school’s Fellowship Committee Member.
Dear Applicant for the Teaching Academy of the Consortium of West Region Colleges of Veterinary Medicine:
Congratulations on applying for a 4-year fellowship in the Teaching Academy of the Consortium of West Region Colleges of Veterinary Medicine (RTA). The RTA was established in 2011 with a mission of serving as a working group for the benefit of educators through a collaborative effort of the Deans of Veterinary Medicine Programs and Schools from Colorado State University, Midwestern University, Oregon State University, University of California – Davis, Washington State University, Western University of Health Sciences, and the University of Arizona. This has expanded to the current mission of
“to meet the needs of society and the profession by ensuring fellows of the consortium collaborate to develop, implement, and sustain the best practices in veterinary medical and biomedical education in our colleges, and to establish veterinary medical educator/biomedical educator as a valued career track.”
Fellowship in the RTA begins with a 4-year fellowship. Upon initial acceptance and participation in local and regional teaching academy initiatives and programs, it is renewable as a 4-year fellowship thereafter. The Fellowship Application Process includes the submission of the following (in 1 portable document format (PDF) file):
- Cover Sheet. Please include the attached cover sheet and checklist as the first pages of your application.
- Nomination statement or Letter of Support from an active fellow of the academy (less than 500 words).
- Applicant’s Personal Statement. Your personal statement should clearly and succinctly (approximately 2 pages) include the following:
- An explanation of why you are interested in joining the RTA.
- If your university has a local teaching academy, describe or explain your participation clearly, describing your role along with any additional information explaining the extent of your involvement, commitment, willingness, and ability to engage in the RTA’s mission.
- Fellows of the RTA are active in promoting, organizing, researching, designing, and implementing programs and initiatives that support the Teaching Academy’s mission.
- Please select a minimum of 2 of these topics, projects, or types of activities that you would be interested in working on with other fellows of the Teaching Academy. If you have other areas of interest that you would like to explore and develop with the RTA, please identify and explain that area.
- The RTA focuses on 1) teaching effectiveness, 2) innovation in teaching, 3) development of enduring educational materials, 4) effective and creative uses of evidence-based teaching methods, educational scholarship/research, and 6) educational leadership.
- Please select a minimum of 2 of these topics, projects, or types of activities that you would be interested in working on with other fellows of the Teaching Academy. If you have other areas of interest that you would like to explore and develop with the RTA, please identify and explain that area.
- An abbreviated Teaching Vita:
- Focus the vita on your teaching and educational accomplishments, as well as your basic educational and informational background. Please highlight (in a color) related education and information on your vita to easily locate this information. To assist in the preparation of your abbreviated Teaching Vitae, please follow the Educator’s CV Guide, as it will provide suggestions on how to modify and/or adapt your current Teaching Vitae according to your University’s requirements.
The Teaching Academy of the Consortium of West Region Colleges of Veterinary Medicine looks forward to reviewing your Fellowship Application. Your completed application is due to your Fellowship Committee Representative by October 1 of each year. The review process for new applications will take place in October, and applicants will receive notification of their acceptance status by December 1st of each year.
