SUMMARY:Seminar: Cognition to Clinic: Teaching Learning Strategies that Improve Veterinary Students’ Performance
DESCRIPTION:Register: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/f2yuagu \n  \nCVM Teaching Academy Seminar: \nCognition to Clinic: Teaching Learning Strategies that Improve Veterinary Students’ Performance \nGuest Presenter: Dr. Kira J. Carbonneau \n  \nVeterinary medicine demands high levels of self-regulated learning\, clinical reasoning\, and cognitive flexibility\, yet many students enter programs without explicit training in how to learn effectively under these conditions. This session examines evidence-based instructional strategies that instructors can use to explicitly teach learning strategies to veterinary students across didactic\, laboratory\, and clinical instruction. Grounded in research on multimedia learning\, deliberate practice\, case-based instruction\, and simulation-based education\, the session highlights how instructors can scaffold metacognition\, improve transfer of learning\, and support. Drawing from educational research on simulation\, clinical decision-making\, and resilience\, participants will explore practical approaches for embedding worked examples\, self-explanation\, feedback timing\, and reflective practice into their courses. \n
